The Prothonotary Warbler gets the famous name after “prothonotaries” which are papal clerks in the Catholic Church who traditionally wore bright yellow robes. This bird lives in wet, swampy deciduous forests, flooded bottomlands, and slow-moving rivers, earning it the nickname "swamp warbler"

This warbler is a popular songbird who makes nests in dead trees along with manmade nest boxes.
