32” x 40” - Charcoal and Soft Pastel
The Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher is an elegant, pale-gray songbird with a striking, deeply forked tail that can grow up to twice the length of its body. This creature is very aggressive by nature and is called “tyrant” (Tyrannus forficatus). Highly territorial and defensive during the breeding season, often chasing much larger birds—like hawks and vultures—away from their nests
This bird acts as an aerial acrobat, launching from a perch to snatch prey mid-air using its long tail as a rudder for sharp turns.
Common in the south-central United States (especially Texas and Oklahoma—where it is the official state bird)
